Tasting- Butterfly Kiss Moscato

Name: Butterfly Kiss
Variety: Moscato
Region: Valle Central
Country: Chile
Year: 2012
Price: $13

Winery Review: Aromas of honeydew and apricot, gently kissed by orange blossom, candied pineapple, and a hint of lime zest.

My Review: I think this wine is very light and buttery. It was sweet and sugary and tasted like a honeysuckle. Maybe I liked this wine so much because I wasn't a fan of any of the others from that tasting, but I loved this wine so much I bought it.

Tasting- Rosemont Chardonnay

Name: Rosemount
Variety: Chardonnay
Region: South Australia
Country: Austrailia
Year: 2013
Price: $10

Winery Review: This wine has a peachy scent and smooth texture; it's a little perfumey for us, but far from the worst Chardonnay you can get for under ten bucks at your local liquor store. It tastes as if the peach purée has already been added, so put this to use in your fruit-filled sangria.

My Review: I thought this wine was very bitter. Very sweet smell, however. Probably would not drink this again.

Tasting- Purple Paws Zinfandel

Name: Purple Paws
Variety: Zinfandel
Region: Lodi, CA
Country: United States
Year: 2012
Price: $15

Winery Review: Our 2012 Lodi Zinfdandel exhibits hints of cherry on the front of your palate and vanilla on the finish that will have you begging for more. Like most zinfandels it pairs well with good friends and barbecue

My Review: This wine was my least favorite of the five. It had a rubbery smell and taste. It also had an extremely strong flavor. However, the flavor was not one I liked.

Tasting- Purple Paws Cabernet Sauvignon

Name: Purple Paws
Variety: Cabernet Sauvignon Non Vintage
Region: Lodi, California
Country: United States
Year: 2012
Price: $15

Winery Review: Our 2012 Lodi Cabernet has all the classic notes of a California Cabernet Sauvignon. Cloves, olives, and oak with a no nonsense, fruit forward finish remind you why this, the heaviest wine in the Purple Paws line, lends itself to pairings of robust steaks or lamb.

My Review: Smelt like plums. Also had a spice like smell. I thought it was a dry wine that tasted like berries and was tart. Not something I would want to drink again.

Tasting- La Lejania Sauvignon Blanc

Name: La Lejania
Variety: Sauvignon Blanc
Region: Central Valley
Country: Chile
Year: 2015
Price: $10

Winery Review: Notes of Citrus, grapefruit, mandarin orange and asparagus. Fresh and clean...drinking tremendous right now!

My Review: This wine had a very fruity smell. I smelt grape, apple, and grapefruit. The smell was both sweet and tangy. While the wine had a nice smell, the taste didn't do much to me. Wasn't awful, but probably couldn't drink a glass or two of it.

And the Journey Begins...

This blog will be a journey of me (hopefully) beginning to like wine. I come from a family of Europeans who love to drink wine, so I do know a few things about wine and different types of wine however my own experience with wine is very limited. I like them to be sweet and taste as close to grape juice as possible.

I have tried a few red wines, mainly Merlot's, as that is my grandmas favorite wines. All of the wines my family has asked me to taste, I generally find disgusting. Thus far in life I have only really tried and liked white wines, cheap ones. My likes consist of a few varieties of Franzia and most types of Moscato (Barefoot, Sutter Home, etc). The cheaper the better has been my motto. Recently, I even was adventurous enough to try a Riesling. Surprisingly, I really liked it.

I'm hoping to gain a new appreciation for wine through this course that lets me move on from Moscato (finally) and maybe by the end I'll even be drinking red wine. Maybe next thanksgiving I won't be the only one not drinking wine!!!!!
